The new Facebook design we covered last week has already begun to roll out to users. And yes, it looks a lot like Twitter. An awful lot like Twitter. The home page displays updates from your friends top center, with a "What's on your mind?" box above the stream. Mozilla on Thursday released the third beta version of Firefox 3.1, aka Shiretoko, one of the frontrunners in the current race to improve Web browsers. The new version includes better "Web worker" multitasking abilities, a faster Gecko rendering engine for showing Web pages, and upgrades to the TraceMonkey engine for faster, more stable execution of Web sites' JavaScript programs. Yahoo has released a Facebook application called Friends on Fire that lets people share their location with each other. Google Latitude is an island unto itself, using Google's own technology for cell phone-based location detection and for managing who gets access to your location. Yahoo has a new application called Pingbox that lets Facebook users chat with widely used Yahoo Messenger technology instead of Facebook's built-in chat. With Pingbox set up, people who visit your Facebook page see a chat window that invites them to send a message. Doing so initiates a chat through Yahoo Messenger.
