dramatic usability improvements to Ubuntu based software appliances

Hi guys,

I am one of the developers behind TurnKey Linux, an opensource project
that is developing a family of Ubuntu-based installable Live CDs which
are pre-integrated for specific usage scenarios while optimizing for
ease of use.

The Ubuntu Weekly News team covered our project a month and a half ago
when we launched.

The response we got from the Ubuntu community was fantastic, and we used
the feedback to guide our efforts as while working the kinks out of our
current crop of appliances.

Our main focus has been to try and figure out how to dramatically
improve the usability of the handful of appliances we have released so
that they appeal to a much wider audience (e.g., not everybody likes
mucking around with the command line).

We are proud to announce that recently released versions of our Lamp,
Joomla, Drupal appliances now feature:

* easy to use configuration console (written from scratch in Python)
* a beautiful web administration interface
* auto-login while in demo/live mode
* root password configuration during installation

As usual, detailed information, screenshots and release notes is
available in the appliances section on our website:

http://www.turnkeylinux.org/appliances

Launchpad blueprints for this release can be found at:

https://blueprints.launchpad.net/turnkeylinux/2008.10.17-hardy-x86

The news release on our website can be found at:

http://www.turnkeylinux.org/news/new-releases-feature-dramatic-usability-improvements

Do you think it would be appropriate to cover our progress in Ubuntu
Weekly News?

Cheers,
Liraz

Other things to do:

Add your information here in the appropriate place on the Planet beat.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FWN/Beats

Like I said in my email to f-marketing-l, my strategy is pretty much:

0. Read Planet daily.

1. Copy & paste the 2 or 3 posts that I think are most interesting to
the community at large into:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FWN/Beats/PlanetFedora

2. At the end of the week, go to that page and open up all the links I
saved. Any that seem pointless a few days later, I delete.

3. Then I take the remaining ones, and try to write a little narrative
about them. If you're a consistent FWN reader, you've probably already
seen it.

You, of course, can do it however you like. But that was the strategy
that I used.

Thanks for helping out -- much appreciated.

Hi Lee,

Good to hear from you again - I think the last time we talked was a
CarolinaCon a year or two back.
Make yourself at home and thanks for taking on the work!.

Hi Lee,

Great to have you here. If there's any help you need just ask. In the
meanwhile here's a rough overview of how we produce each issue. The only
immediately pertinent thing is the "Writing News Beats" section:

Best wishes,

Planet Fedora beat for FWN

Volunteering for the Planet Fedora beat for FWN. I was asked to follow up here with a note saying that I volunteered for this, so here I am :)

announce beat complete, planet beat not happening

That's my status this week. Apologies on the Planet Beat. There's a
collection of the most important links on the page, but I simply don't
have the time to do the proper write-up to make it "newsworthy".

I'm going to try to recruit for a new writer for that Beat.
