	Chrome outpaced by Firefox With new beta versions out for Firefox and Google Chrome, we thought we'd see how things have changed when it comes to testing the speed of JavaScript, the programming language that powers many cutting-edge Web applications such as Gmail and Google Docs. The answer: both browsers made big strides, but Firefox beta still beats Chrome beta on one widely-used performance test. JavaScript powers many sophisticated Web sites and Web-based applications, endowing them with features such as drag-and-drop, pop-up dialog boxes. Faster JavaScript means companies such as Zoho, Google, and Yahoo can build more features into the Web applications and that users will find those applications easier to use. See the results! Widgets on the page can support a new "canvas view," which expands the widget to the full iGoogle window. The new iGoogle also moves user navigation from tabs at the top of the page to a bar down the left side.  Read more  Yahoo rolls out social Web foundation Posted by Dan Farber Yahoo is beginning the transition to its new socially-enabled platform, laying the foundation for a "universal profile." The new profile page will allow users to make limited changes to their profiles, such as status updates, adding connections (friends in the social graph) from their Yahoo address book, and listing interests.  Read more  Foxmarks syncs browser passwords across PCs Posted by Rafe Needleman Foxmarks, which has been out for a while with a tool to synchronize bookmarks across browser installations, on Tuesday took its password sync feature out of beta. The product is a Firefox add-in that works seamlessly and behind the scenes. In its default configuration, every time you exit your Firefox browser, it sends updates of your bookmarks and passwords to a server.
