I went ahead and posted the interview to the Fridge. I shrank the
images slightly to fit into the Fridge theme, but they are linked to
the originals.

fwn #149 so far

Hi all,

I've edited the following beats and will be back in 10 hours or so to
see what else has come in if Pascal or Huzaifa don't beat me to it.
It's shaping up to be another incredibly strong issue this week.
Thanks!

This is awesome Pascal! Personally speaking I'm very ignorant about OLPC
and Sugar (played with some QEMU images ages ago just to see) and found
the beat fascinating but I wondered what were many of the OLPC-specific
technical terms. Perhaps brief footnotes explaining them or links to
their wiki entries? I know, I know I should get off my lazy a## and just
google them, but if I'm reading quickly I often don't do that.

It's really hard to know where to stop. Who's the audience? People that
just need a quick shorthand reminder of what went on the week they were
away? People with mild curiosity seeking a concise digest of the
firehose of information? Complete novices looking for something to
orient them to the culture and currents in the community? I think we're
all grappling with that and it'll be interesting to hear other opinions.

In closing I really enjoyed reading the new column and I'm deeply
grateful that you're doing this.

Best wishes,

OLPC beat complete

Hi fedora-news and fedora-olpc folk --

The OLPC beat for FWN is complete[1] for FWN 149. I struggled with how
much detail to put into this from the OLPC-Community weekly that Jim
Gettys sends out, an opted to be verbose, not really knowing where to
stop :) I'd appreciate feedback on whether I should simply reference
the OLPC-Community weekly news and pull out announcements only, or
whether it is actually useful to highlight the software work going on at
OLPC. Thanks!

CARLVARY GREETINGS FROM MRS LEAH

Dearest in Christ,

I am Mrs Leah Agom from Kuwait. I am married to Mr Richard Agom. He worked with  Kuwait  embassy in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the year 2002. We were married for eleven years without a child.

He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we were both born again Christian. Since his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against.

When my late Husband was alive he deposited the sum of $3.2Million (three Million two hundred thousand U.S. Dollars)in one of the international Banks here in Abidjan.  Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next Eight months due to cancer problem.

The one that disturbs me most is my stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a church that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein. I want a church or good child of God that will use this fund for orphanages, widows, propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained.
The Bible made us to understand that blessed is the hand that giveth? I took this decision because I done have any child that will inherit this money and my plenty of relatives are not Christians and I done want  our efforts to be used by unbelievers. I done want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly way.

This is why I am taking this decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says that the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace? I done need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband relatives around me always.

I done want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank here in Abidjan, and you've to contact them for onward transfering of the fund to your destination.

I will also issue you an authority letter that will prove you the present beneficiary of this fund. I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my shephard. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that Wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth.

Please always be prayerful all through your life.Contact me on the above e-mail address and any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another church for this same purpose.

Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein.
Hoping to receive your reply.
Remain blessed in the Lord.

Yours in Christ,

Mrs Leah Agom.

Re: Interview with Dustin Kirkland on Encrypted Private Directories

Matthew,
I can see how it could go that way.  But I can also see how Launchpad can act as a filter between editors and contributors.  One doesn't HAVE to accept contributors to the ranks of the team.  However, those that are or will be long time contributors might just as well be called editors.  And, as with any team, there can be leadership, and controls on those who have been welcomed to the ranks of editor.  I think, perhaps, at this time there's little evidence that it is being abused or needs to be changed.

Yes, I see that. I was just making the point that it doesn't make much sense... It shouldn't be necessary to join a team to be a contributor, and making it necessary also makes the team itself redundant, because there is now no team of editors.
